Chena Slough Elodea

History, current status, and what’s to come.

Chena Slough was Interior Alaska’s first known elodea infested waterbody and was initially documented in 2010. In the years since then the Fairbanks Soil and Water Conservation District and its partners have worked on controlling the infestation. The initial eradication efforts ended in 2020 but some patches of elodea persisted. A new and more targeted eradication effort resumed in 2023.
