Aquatic Invasive Species Technician: Summer 2024

Introduction:

The successful applicant for this position will assist the Invasive Species Specialist in a variety of technical tasks associated with aquatic invasive plant management in interior Alaska. This position is very active and consists primarily of field work with some days spent working at the office. Potential overnight trips may occur with 1-2 nights spent in the field per trip. This position requires many hours surveying both on foot and on small watercraft. This position also requires the applicant to safely handle herbicide products under the supervision of the Invasive Species Specialist. The applicant should be comfortable working outdoors for extended periods, working in inclement weather, and lifting up to 50lbs. This position will be active from approximately early May through September and is based out of our office at 590 University avenue, Fairbanks, AK.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist with aquatic invasive plant projects, including aquatic plant surveys, assisting with herbicide application events, public outreach, creation of educational materials, equipment maintenance, and data management.

2. Public outreach and education on invasive plant issues.

3. Conduct culvert assessment surveys for future fish passage work.

4. Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

1. Background in natural resource fields especially Botany, Ecology, or Fisheries

2. Degree or course work in Biology or Natural Resources.

3. Ability to work independently on projects

4. Comfortable working outdoors for long periods of time, and comfortable in boats and small aircraft.

5. Valid drivers license


Wages and Benefits:

This position will be 30-40 hours a week from May - September 2024.

The rate of pay will be $21 per hour.
